200th Anniversary of Cloud Classification
In December 1802, a group of intellectuals of the Askesian Society listened to a lecture On the Modification of Clouds from a fellow colleague, who was a London Pharmacist and amateur meteorologist, Luke Howard. This lecture was significant to the world of meteorology as it presented methods for classifying clouds, which are still used today.
